Kelly's Revenge
Kelly was depressed. It had been three months since she had
met Rick at the docks and fulfilled her contract, but the time had not made her
any more at ease. In fact, Kelly had come to hate the man who had sent her out
on the hit. Mr. Cicero, the head of the local organization that controlled the
rackets was the man who had personally chosen Kelly to take out Rick. Cicero
knew of Kelly and Rick's past relationship and took advantage of that fact
knowing that Kelly could get close enough to Rick to do the job without arousing
any suspicions on Rick's part. And, indeed, as events transpired they proved
Cicero correct. Kelly did get to Rick and completed her assignment. But the cost
to Kelly was at first a deep depression and later a growing hatred toward the
man who made her murder the one man she had ever truly cared for. In order to
get away from herself Kelly had run to the Bahamas to rest and think. But as we
all know, you can't run away from your thoughts and the days lying on the beach
with little to do but think back on the events of three months ago just made
Kelly more determined than ever to get revenge on the man who selected her to
perform this very emotional job. But the problem was how to get at Cicero. He
was an immensely powerful and at the same time paranoid man who surrounded
himself with bodyguards. As much as he trusted Kelly to perform hits for him he
would never allow her in his presence without first having her checked for
weapons. Kelly would need a break to get to him. And, although she didn't know
it at the time, the break was about to happen.
The phone rang in Kelly's room at the Bahama Inn. The call was long distance
from New York. It was Lou Sloan, Mr. Cicero's top lieutenant calling. "Kelly,
this is Lou. We have a problem here. It seems that the Bennigan boys from
upstate are trying to muscle in on our business. The boss has tried to reason
with them but it's no go. He's made the decision that he needs your special
talents to deal with these people. Can you get back here by tomorrow?" Kelly
listened to Lou. It bothered her to go back to do a job for Mr. Cicero, but
after all the money was good and until she could figure out a way to take his
life she could at least take his money. "After all, a girl has to eat, doesn't
she?" she reasoned to herself. Kelly responded. "Yeah, I can be in town. Shall
we meet at the usual place to set things up? Say 3:00 o'clock." Lou agreed and
Kelly was on the next plane to New York. As agreed, Kelly and Lou met in Central
Park the next afternoon. Lou explained the situation. "Mr. Cicero has had three
meetings with the Bennigans. Each was worse than the other. The Bennigans
wouldn't listen to reason. They told Mr. Cicero that he had to turn over 75% of
his business or they would take 100% the hard way. To show that they meant
business they threatened his wife and kids. That's what made this personal. Mr.
Cicero wants these guys dead, and he wants them dead slow and ugly. You're the
best in the business and he knows you'll do the job right. Your usual fee is
$25,000 per hit but Mr. Cicero has authorized me to double your fee for this one
time. There is only one condition. The deed must be done with Mr. Cicero
present. He wants to witness these bums getting blown away."
Kelly listened carefully. Sure she had this hatred of Cicero, but $100,000. for
one afternoon's work could make her put aside her personal feelings, at least
for now. She said to Sloan, "Agreed, but I have to set up the hit my way, and
Cicero has to have the money on him when the job comes off." Sloan said that he
would have to check with Mr. Cicero but he thought that her conditions would be
acceptable. The meeting broke off and Sloan disappeared into the park while
Kelly went to her hotel room to await the call and plan the details of the job.
A half hour later Sloan called her. "Kelly, your conditions are acceptable. Let
me know your plans by the end of the week." Kelly smiled. Things were getting
interesting. Now the real work began. How would she set up the Bennigans for the
hit? They were sure to be cautious men. Men in their line of work were always
cautious. But men in their line of work always had two weaknesses: power and
money. If Kelly could work on those weaknesses she could get to them.
Kelly began to think through the situation. The Bennigans wanted control of
Cicero's empire. If Kelly could convince them that she could get close to Cicero
and eliminate him, for a price of course, the Bennigans just might be
interested. After all, what could be better for them than having a trusted
employee of Cicero eliminate him and leave his business ripe for takeover. Kelly
just had to get word to the Bennigans that she was available for the job. This
actually wasn't too difficult since she knew several street hoods that would be
happy to pass the word around. All Kelly had to do was call Lou Sloan, explain
the plan so that he and Cicero would not misunderstand her intentions, and get
the word on the street. The next day Kelly put the plan in motion. She called
Lou and let him know what she planned and she dropped the word with Jackson
Smith, a local neighborhood pimp that was known to have contacts with all the
local muscle. Then she went back to her hotel room and waited.
She didn't have long to wait. Two hours later her phone rang. "This Kelly?"
"Yes, I'm Kelly. What can I do for you?" "Listen, I heard you're interested in a
job having to do with a guy named Cicero. That true?" "Keep talking." "Well, me
and my brother think we might be able to use your talents. What's it gonna cost
us?" "$50,000." "$50,000.! That's robbery. What makes you think we'll pay that
kind of money?" "Yes, it is robbery, but you should know about that. Who else
can get close enough to Cicero to do the job? If you can get anyone else who can
pull it off for less money, get him. Otherwise, my price is $50,000."
"OK, OK. You got us over a barrel, you goniff. You got the job. Now how you
gonna do it?" "Mr. Cicero likes to dine alone every Friday night at a small
restaurant called The Onion Tree on Morton Street. You know the place?" "We'll
find it. Go on." "Well, you and your brother come to the restaurant at 8:00
o'clock next Friday night with the money and I guarantee that the visit will be
very productive for you." "It better be for 50 grand! 'Cause if it ain't, you're
gonna pay big time, sister." The caller slammed the phone down in Kelly's ear.
"Shit, what scum," thought Kelly. But no matter; she had them on the hook. Now
she just had to let Lou Sloan and Mr. Cicero in on the plan so they would be at
the restaurant at the appointed time to enjoy the show.
Kelly called Lou. "The deal's set up. Tell Mr. Cicero to be at The Onion Tree at
7:45 on Friday. He'll see a show I'll guarantee he'll enjoy." "Great. I'll see
that Mr. Cicero is there. You're still the best, Kelly."
Kelly now was satisfied that the situation was set up perfectly. She could take
it easy until Friday night and let the actors in this little play of hers do
their part. Soon enough, Friday evening rolled around. Kelly dressed in a shiny
black leather pant suit with short black leather boots. She put a Mac 10 and a
9mm automatic in a shoulder bag and slipped on a pair of tight fitting black
leather gloves. The stunningly beautiful blonde was ready for her evening out.
When Kelly arrived at the restaurant she found that the restaurant staff had
prepared Mr. Cicero's meal in his private sound proof dining room as they always
did and then left the building. This was their routine on Friday evenings when
Mr. Cicero visited so there was nothing unusual in this. Mr. Cicero's two
bodyguards greeted Kelly, and as they always did, they checked her for weapons.
They easily found the two weapons she carried but Lou waived them off. After
all, if Kelly was to do her job this evening she would have to have the tools of
her trade. Kelly walked past the bodyguards and went up to Mr. Cicero.
"It's good to see you again, Kelly. It's my understanding that you're going to
take care of a little problem for me tonight." "Don't worry, Mr. Cicero. I've
never failed you before and I don't intend to start now." Mr. Cicero smiled. He
was going to enjoy this show. Then precisely at 8:00 o'clock the Bennigans and
two of their goons arrived. They looked around and called Kelly over. Kelly met
them at the door. "OK. We're here. We got your money. Now blow this guy away so
we can get outta here." "No problem, gentlemen. But first let me see my fee."
Joe Bennigan told his brother Bob to give Kelly the money. Kelly counted it and
said, "Thank you, gentlemen. It's now time to get down to business." With that
she reached her gloved hand into her shoulder bag and pulled out the Mac 10. The
Bennigans smiled. Mr. Cicero smiled. In a few short seconds each believed that
his rival would be eliminated.
Kelly then turned and pointed the weapon at the Bennigans and their goons. "Hey,
what's going on here? What're you doin'?" shouted Joe Bennigan. "Is this some
kind of double cross?" Kelly replied, "Now you boys are smarter than I first
gave you credit for. You've figured it out all by yourselves." Suddenly
realizing that their situation was desperate the Bennigans and their men reached
inside their jackets for their weapons. It was a futile gesture. Kelly’s black
leather covered finger pressed the trigger of the Mac 10 and raked the weapon
across both Benningtons and their two bodyguards. Joe was caught full in the
chest and went down hard and fast. He never knew what hit him. Bob took five
slugs in his stomach and rolled in agony on the floor. The two bodyguards were
riddled through their arms and chests and lay on the floor grabbing at their
wounds. Kelly walked over to the still struggling, barely alive men and calmly
sprayed them with another burst. A small groan could be heard as each took his
final slugs. Kelly looked over the bullet riddled corpses on the floor and the
turned to Mr. Cicero with a satisfied look on her face.
Mr. Cicero was smiling and clapping his hands in glee. He had come to see this
show and he wasn't disappointed. He said to Kelly, "Wow, that was great. You
were definitely worth the 100 grand I'm paying you. Lou, give Kelly the money.
This night's gonna put me back on top without any interference from those scum."
With that Mr. Cicero got up, walked over to the bleeding bodies and spat on
them. He then turned to Lou and said, "OK. Let's get outta here. Show's over."
Kelly was standing by the door of the private dining room as Mr. Cicero got up
to leave and she said quietly, "Not so fast, Mr. Cicero. There's still a little
more work to be done here tonight." Mr. Cicero stopped and looked at Kelly with
a slightly bemused expression. "What are you talking about? I paid you off and
these bums are rat food now. What work is left?"
Kelly's face hardened. She said, "Back in January you had me hit Rick Peters.
You remember that? You knew the Rick and I were close, very close, and you still
had me do the job on him. I've never forgiven you for that. I was just waiting
for an opportunity to get close to you with a loaded weapon to get back at you.
Looks like tonight's the night I managed it." Cicero's expression changed from
confusion to fear as he began to realize that this cold hitwoman was preparing
to turn on him. He looked at Kelly and said, "You wouldn't dare kill me. My
bodyguards will have you dead in a second if you shoot. What good will it do you
to kill me if it results in suicide for you? Now let's be reasonable and put the
gun away and we can forget this Rick revenge thing." Kelly said evenly, "You
know Mr. Cicero you've been on top for so long and have concentrated so hard on
the threat from the Bennigans that you got careless. You stopped paying
attention to your own staff. Isn't that right, Lou?"
Cicero spun around and stared at Lou Sloan. "What does she mean, Lou? What's she
saying?" Lou answered, "You're old, Mr. Cicero, and out of touch. The
organization needs young, aggressive leadership. It needs men like me. The
council decided that you should retire, permanently. This whole plan was worked
out on orders from the organization. Kelly was always our tool, not yours. This
little operation allowed us to get rid of the Bennigans and you at the same
time. C'est la guerre, Mr. Cicero. Kelly, it's time to complete your
assignment." Kelly reached into her shoulder bag and pulled out the 9mm
automatic. She pointed it at Mr. Cicero. Cicero dropped to his knees and begged,
"No, please don't. I'll leave the state. I'll leave the country. You'll never
hear from me again. Just let me go." Kelly's face hardened once more. She said,
"This is for making me do the job on Rick." With that her gloved finger pulled
the trigger. BLAM! The bullet hit Cicero in the stomach. He screamed in agony
and turned to run away. Kelly fired twice more at his back. BLAM! BLAM! The gun
jumped in her hand as the bullets left the muzzle and landed in Cicero's spine.
Cicero dropped to the floor, able only to move his arms and legs in a disjointed
motion. Kelly walked over to where he lay and watched him writhing on the floor.
She showed no emotion as she placed the automatic against his forehead and fired
the coup de grace, scattering bits of Cicero's skull and brain over the nearby
tables. Kelly then went over to Lou and took the 100 grand. Together with the 50
grand she got from the Bennigans it was a VERY profitable night's work. Lou,
Cicero's ex-bodyguards, and Kelly went out the back door of the restaurant. Lou
said, "I can speak for the organization, Kelly. Your work here tonight is
appreciated. You can be sure that there will be more work for you in the future.
We'll be in touch." Kelly smiled at Lou. Being a hitwoman was starting to become
fun again.
